Objectives

The objectives of this Project for the integrated radiation monitoring and early warning system in the Chernobyl exclusion zone are to

  • integrate the new equipment and facilities through the TACIS Project U4.01/03S
  • increase the system capacity for protection of the population and environment within the ChEZ, in the whole Ukraine and internationally, by providing to the system early warning and decision making support functions
  • ensure the reliable performance of the system in radiation monitoring, early warning and decision making support by taking advantage of the state-of-the-art measuring and information communication technologies.

The integrated radiation monitoring and early warning system is to provide for a uniform approach to the radiation monitoring and early warning in the whole ChEZ, and equip with effective, reliable (UPS, redundancy, etc.) and efficient tools to support early decision makings. This System upon completion may also be used by the IAEA, EC or other international organizations as training facilities for radiation monitoring, early warning and decision making support in case of radiation emergencies in a highly contaminated area.
