Background

NNEGC Energoatom operates all Ukrainian nuclear power plants (NPP). The “Separated Entity Scientific and Technical Centre” (SE-STC) is a structural subdivision of the NNEGC “Energoatom” established at same level as the NPPs.
The purpose of SE-STC is to provide technical expertise to the Energoatom’s nuclear power plants in different areas such as operation, maintenance, safety and reliability assessment, reactor physics, and radiochemistry. SE-STC also helps coordinating scientific work and technical support in the field of nuclear engineering, providing an interaction with other enterprises providing scientific, technical and engineering services for NPP in Ukraine to avoid duplication of works.
In addition to the abovementioned activities, SE-STC had also intended to establish an internal competence in calculations of core parameters for core load design of VVER 1000/320 reactors by using the computational codes applied in EU to reduce its dependence on Russian institutes. Two specific supply contracts were therefore established within the U2.01/04 project on “Scientific, technical and organisational support to the SE-STC” to provide the software and user’s license for specialized reactor core calculation codes Helios and DYN3D as well as necessary training to the SE-STC personnel. An appropriately configured computer server to run these specialized codes has been delivered through another equipment supply contract of U2.01/04S.

Objectives

The objective of the 124091 supply contract was to help to the SE-STC to develop internal competencies in calculations of core parameters for core load design of VVER 1000/320 reactors by supplying the computational code HELIOS for 2D calculations of reactor core load design and homogenized cross-section data. The supply was supposed to include full license (with 1 year warranty period), software installation and 1-week training of the SE-STC staff.

Results

This contract was a direct agreement one made with the Studsvik Scandpower AB, Nyköping, Sweden. The contract was signed on 14.12.2007 and the implementation started on 15.12.2007. The implementation period was 16 months. The value of the contract (fully covered by EC funds) was 115 000 €. The code was delivered and installed at the Energoatom’s SE STC. The final invoice was paid on 18 February 2009. The Final Acceptance Certificate was signed at the end of the one-year warranty period (5 April 2009). The pre-financing guarantee was released on 22 December 2009 and the contract was closed on 13 April 2011.
