Objectives

The objective of the project was to establish the management system and instruments to be used by VVER-NPP managers in relation to maintenance activities both in normal operation and in planned outages, with a view to:

  • Improve the execution, the scope and the quality of maintenance;
  • Reduce personnel exposure to radiation;
  • Minimize the risks of accident to personnel;
  • Minimize equipment outage time and duration;
  • Comply with applicable legal and regulatory requirements;
  • Ensure or extend the service life of the different components of an NPP.

Results

Task 1:

  • Revision of maintenance work plan;
  • Translation of relevant Russian documents;
  • Issue of recommendations;
  • Description of optimisation methods;
  • Russian implementation.

Task 2:

  • Selection of 2 pilot components;
  • Drawing up a methodology guide;
  • Design review of components;
  • Definition of feed-back analysis;
  • Presentation of EU-Contractor’s feed-back organization and documentation;
  • Drawing up preventive maintenance basic programme.

Task 3:

  • Establishment of guidelines for maintenance review;
  • Presentation of EU tools used to manage outages;
  • Preliminary review on site (Kalinin NPP);
  • Issue recommendations.

Task 4:

  • Preparing new analysis, diagnostic and testing methods;
  • Review of testing methods and preparation of a visit of Russian specialists to the Contractor’s workshop;
  • Performing demonstrations and presentations at Contractor’s premises;
  • Selection of maintenance tools by the Russian side;
  • Procurement of tools;
  • Transport of tools to Russia;
  • Demonstration on a Russian site.
