Objectives

The objectives of the project were to assist in the establishment of the required capabilities for food quality control in three laboratories in the Chernobyl-affected areas of Ukraine, Belarus and Russia.

The aim was to identify requirements for further development, in terms of equipment, personnel and training needs, of the three existing laboratories:

  • The National Analytical Centre (working with the Institute of Alchohol and Biotechnology of Food), Kiev, Ukraine.
  • The Minsk City Hygiene and Epidemiological Centre, Minsk, Belarus
  • Bryansk Centre of Agrochemistry and radiology, Bryansk, Russia

Results

Following the establishment of a list of required laboratory equipment for each laboratory, technical specifications for the procurement of the equipment were prepared and the procurement was launched.

Training needs were identified and corresponding training programmes were prepared and implemented.

The project was implemented between July 1995 and February 1998.
