Objectives

The overall objective of this contract is to provide support to the Mexican government in their efforts to ensure responsible, sound and economically efficient management of spent nuclear fuel and all radioactive waste generated at Mexican NPPs and other nuclear installations (as well as from decommissioning of these facilities in future), and generated at all kind of civil applications of radioactive nuclides in Mexico.

This will be achieved through the following objectives:

  1. Support the development of a comprehensive National Policy Plan for the management of spent nuclear fuel and all radioactive waste arising in Mexico;
  2. Support the development of a strategy to implement this National Policy Plan, including draft legislation and institutional framework, and
  3. Development of a strategy at the level of the largest single waste generator to improve the management of the spent nuclear fuel and radioactive waste generated at Laguna Verde NPP, based on international best practice, integral cost optimisation and its compliance with the National Policy Plan.
